INITIATIVES FOR SAFEGUARDING DOCUMENTARY HERITAGE IN ALIPH’S ACTIVITIES: INTERNATIONAL PRACTICES AND UKRAINIAN CONTEXT

The goal of the research is to examine ALIPH’s international initiatives on preserving the documentary heritage in the warzones, post-conflict areas and under conditions of the climate change, to analyze the efficiency of the implemented measures; to highlight ALIPH’s contribution to preserving the cultural heritage of Ukraine during the Russian aggression. The methodology is based on empirical and theoretical methods, including analysis, synthesis, generalization, as well as systemic, information and analytical methods and the principle of scientific objectivity. The research employs a case-study methodology, content analysis and monitoring of the official reports and ALIPH’s project documentation, serving as a foundation for measuring the efficiency of the implemented initiatives within the field of preserving the cultural heritage. A scientific novelty of the article lies in conducting the comprehensive analysis of ALIPH’s projects, aimed at preserving the documentary heritage during the armed conflicts, crises and climate change; examining the efficiency of a new form of multilateralism, emerging as a key element in the global collaboration in the cultural heritage protection; highlighting ALIPH’s contribution to preserving the cultural assets of Ukraine under the war conditions. Conclusions. The analysis of ALIPH’s activities evidences its key role in the global initiatives regarding the preservation of the cultural heritage in all its forms during emergencies. A human-centered approach, aimed at supporting local communities, training specialists and integrating the sustainable development principles in the field of cultural heritage preservation, is a specific feature of ALIPH’s activity. A model of multilateralism introduced by ALIPH proves its efficiency, considering a broad engagement of the Member States, strategic partners, international organizations and private donors, concluded agreements on cooperation and a great number of the implemented projects. The article underlines a significant ALIPH’s contribution in preserving the cultural heritage in Ukraine and supporting the cultural institutions that increases their resilience during the Russo-Ukrainian War. ALIPH’s experience gained in the implemented initiatives is essential for enhancing the global mechanisms of preserving the cultural heritage under the conditions of crises and presents a guideline for the further international strategic planning.
