Ukrainian memoirs in the Osnova magazine: authors and genres

The purpose of the article is to study the memoir narrative of the Osnova magazine, its characteristic features in the source and communication contexts, the circle of "heroes" / authors, genres, and its role in shaping the national historical discourse and Ukrainian identity. The research methodology is based on the application of general scientific methods of systematization and classification, the principles of historicism, objectivity, retrospective, comparative and discourse analysis (content analysis method). The scientific novelty of the article lies in the study of the memoir texts of the Osnova magazine as a cultural and historical phenomenon, an important historical and biographical source of Ukrainian historiography and a tool of communication / autocommunication in the scientific and public environment for the establishment of national identity in the difficult conditions of Russia’s imperial policy. Conclusions. The memoir narrative presented in the Osnova magazine is considered as a cultural and historical phenomenon that is a manifestation of the socio-political thought and intellectual history of Ukraine in the 19th century. Its uniqueness lies in the combination of memories and scientific reception of Ukrainian history and culture, as well as in the authors’ conscious desire for self-expression, self-realization, and dialogue with the reader. The memoir texts of the journal are part of contemporary culture, an important source segment of Ukrainian historiography, a thorough historical and biographical source and a communicative resource for the transmission of nationally oriented meanings and the creation of a circle of their own "heroes". It is noted that the memoirs published in the Osnova magazine have become an important component of the national historical discourse and a new stage in the development of the national memoir tradition. They provide an opportunity to actualize the historical role of leading figures in the struggle for the national rights of Ukrainians, to show the importance of history and historical science in the consolidation of Ukrainian society and the formation of national/socio-cultural identity.
