The activity of Leon Idzikovsky firm (book sales, book and music publishing, private public library)

Abstract

Leon Idzikovsky fi rm’s activity has been analyzed and reviewed in this article. The firm was founded by Leon Idzikovsky in 1858 in Kyiv. The author draws attention to the different types of the fi rm’s activity: bookselling, publishing, private public library etc. The repertoire of the publishing company has been studied in compliance with the fi rm’s activity periodization. Recreated is the history of Leon Idzikovsky library foundation. The library consisted of nearly 173,000 books, periodicals and sheet music. The author of the article analyzes the thematic structure of the library fonds. Defi ned is the role of Leon Idzikovsky fi rm as an important cultural center of prerevolutionary Kyiv.
