Archive of "Ukrainian news" newspaper (Germany, 1945-1950) as source of Ukrainian artistic movement history of activities

Abstract

The goal of the research is to analyze the composition and content of documents from the archive of the newspaper "Ukrainian News" (Germany, 1945-1950) as a source from the history of the Ukrainian emigration writer’s association - the Ukrainian Artistic Movement in order to determine the main problem-thematic directions of the organization’s literary and publishing activities and deepening of information about its cultural and artistic life. The research methodology is based on the author’s use of the methods of historical-scientific analysis, systematization, chronological, biographical, as well as source and textual methods of source analysis, which made it possible to determine its form composition and information potential. Scientific novelty. Among the materials of the editorial archive of the newspaper  "Ukrainian News", we discovered previously unknown documents from the history of the Ukrainian Artistic Movement, in particular works of various literary genres, information about a number of cultural and artistic events, which constitute a new source base regarding the functioning of this organization. The main thematic areas of activity of the newspaper "Ukrainian News" have been systematized. An index of literary events of the Ukrainian Artistic Movement was prepared for the first time. Conclusions. On the basis of the editorial archive of the newspaper "Ukrainian News" it was possible to reproduce little-known facts of the history of the Ukrainian Artistic Movement as the main participant not only of the literary, but also of the cultural and artistic life of Ukrainians in general in the Western Europe after the Second World War (1945-1950), to systematize the materials of the newspaper "Ukrainian News" (chronology of the creation and activity of the Ukrainian Artistic Movement; works of its members on the pages of the publication; topics of books, magazines, anthologies and almanacs published under the brand of this association of writers; pseudonyms of writers of the diaspora); to determine the role and place of writers in the process of national and cultural self-expression and self-preservation, in particular in the book movement.
