The purpose of the article is updating of issue of determining the classification of pressology sources. The methodology of the article relies on the methods of historicism, analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, and classification, which were used to systematize the conceptual framework, its differences from the systematization of periodical sources, and to develop a new classification model of pressology sources. Scientific novelty is in the theoretical substantiation and proposal of a classification model for pressology sources, its components, essence, features, role, and significance for organizing pressological information. Primarily, the focus is on developing general methodological principles underpinning this scheme and clarifying how it differs from systematization. Conclusions. Based on the primary theoretical foundations of the studied topic, it can be concluded that classification is an essential research procedure for organizing press materials, enabling a comprehensive analysis of pressological information. Analyzing existing classification standards leads to the conclusion that the concepts and terminology of pressology source classification remains underdeveloped and insufficiently standardized, particularly regarding its distinction from the systematization of pressological information. In view of this, a classification model of pressology sources has been developed, and a hierarchy of terminological tools for classification has been defined. The concepts of “classification of periodical sources” and “systematization of periodical sources” have been differentiated and clarified. The model is based on the most significant press characteristics, including publishing, ideological aspects, scale, thematic focus, content, periodicity, genre, and language. The next step has to involve the defining of the periodization of pressology sources.
